TWO Snowy FREEBIES for You!

Not going to lie. I am a little sad that break is almost over.  It sure went by fast {but doesn't it always?!} Even though I wouldn't mind being home for another week or two, I am excited about our snow/snowman unit! :) We will be doing a lot of the same ideas from last year, but I have revamped a couple which I would like to share with you!

The first item is a page from my Graphic Organizers for the Whole Year- I just added some wintery clipart to it! It's a Snowy Story Map that can be done with any nonfiction wintery book! We will be doing it with The Biggest, Best Snowman. Click on the picture to get your copy!

Next, I saw an idea on Pinterest last year to teach the states of matter. You make a snowman out of ice {we made ours out of shaved ice...more like snow}. Then you put him in an electric skillet and watch... Who thought watching ice melt would be so interesting!!? {Seriously, the kids were SO into it last year!} Your students get to see your snowman as a solid, liquid and gas! I made this little record sheet to go along with the activity :)

If you download these pages, be sure to leave a comment here and/or feedback on my little store :) And don't forget that a Snowman Glyph would be the perfect addition to your snowy unit!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

My new favorite ingredient!!!

This post has NOTHING to do with teaching! I don't have anything new teaching-wise to post right now because I am enjoying my last couple of days of Christmas break! I am excited to see our kiddos, but would definitely take another week {or three} of break :) I did manage to get a lot of our lesson plans done last night while the hubs was working late, though! So I guess we will be copy machine hogs on Monday :)

Okay, so I went grocery shopping with my mom before Christmas so we could get all our baking supplies. When we were in the produce section she pointed this out to me:

Basil? In a squeeze bottle? YES PLEASE!!! I recently really fell in love with the taste of basil and wanted it with EVERYTHING! My mom had a basil plant that she let me come pick leaves off of in the summer. So that was awesome! But what do you do in the fall or winter? Buy this!! It is like toothpaste and you just squeeze it into/onto whatever you want!

I made a yummy "summer" pasta last night. I call it that because I made it a LOT this past summer with tomatoes from my dad's garden and my mom's fresh basil :) So I had leftovers for lunch along with this:

I used crunchy Italian bread, spread basil on it, put shredded mozzarella on top of that, sliced some tomatoes, topped with more mozzarella, popped it in the oven at 350* for about 10-12 minutes. OMG. Sooooo yummy! And soooooo easy!! I will be having this for lunch tomorrow, too :)

Now I've got this potato soup in the crock pot for dinner :) I've made it once before and it's DELISH! You can get the recipe HERE.

I hope you all are enjoying you last couple days off!! Or if you are already back with your kiddos, have a fun week with them!

Our Gingerbread Week!

Hey all! I am feeling a lot better today, and even though Christmas has already come and gone, I wanted to share with you some highlights of our Gingerbread Unit!

Each day we read a different version of The Gingerbread Man and we compared and contrasted the stories with one another. {Common Core: RL2.9: Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures}

Then the kids filled out this journal page each day! I apologize for not photographing their work-they did a great job! {Click on the picture to pick up your free copy and tuck it away for next year!}

Here's our gingerbread house to help us compare/contrast each story!

Each student got a gingerbread cookie. They took one bite, and we tallied, graphed, and used our Parts/Total model {from our Everyday Math series} to do a little math!

We did Abby's Gingerbread Science again this year, which was a big hit!

We decorated gingerbread houses! {Perfect activity for those last couple of days!!!}

The kids also had to disguise a gingerbread man for homework. When they came back to school, they wrote a piece convincing Mr. Fox that they were not a gingerbread cookie, but ______. I promised our kids that I would post ALL of their cute disguises on here, so that is what I will leave you with :) ENJOY!
