February Photo Dump!

Hey friends! Can you believe February is just about over? I feel like it was just Christmas break, and I blinked and now it's almost March!

We've been having fun in 2nd grade! We learned all about penguins and celebrated Valentine's Day and the 100th Day! Take a peek at what we've been up to :)

We started our penguin unit by having our students infer what "regurgitate" means. A few knew what it meant, but most were shocked and disgusted by what it meant :)

Then throughout the week we read lots and lots of books, especially nonfiction text, about PENGUINS! We kept track of some new vocabulary words as we learned their meanings.

We reviewed facts and opinions and recorded our ideas on these adorable anchor charts.

We made penguins out of butcher paper, and the kids measured the heights of all 17 species of penguins. This was a huge hit!

And of course we had to write all we learned about penguins! Sometimes you have limited copy counts, so you can't use cutesy paper :) We did a quick directed drawing to go with our writing instead! They turned out pretty stinking cute!

We also celebrated Valentine's Day! We had our very first Valentine's breakfast, and then we made our giant heart sacks to store our valentines. While kids handed out their valentines, they worked on several pages from my valentine printables. Then in the afternoon, we opened up valentines and did some candy heart fun!

It was also the 100th Day! Students were greeted with a banner, which was just the coolest thing ever!

The class had to come up with 100 ways to make 100. We gave them each a couple of sticky notes and displayed them on this poster made out of butcher paper.

We had the kids estimate how many times they could write their name, how many smiley faces they could draw, and how many 100s they could write in 100 seconds. This was just a quick little time filler, but was fun! Nothing fancy :)

We did several activities from my 100th Day Fun pack, too!

We also used the Aging Booth App and had our kids write about themselves when they are 100. This is what Mr. Hubby gets to look forward to, HA!

We started our space unit this week and have had lots of fun learning about the sun and moon! Next week will be all about a special Dr. :)

HAPPY ALMOST FRIDAY!

Penguins, Valentine's, Space...and a SALE!

Hi friends! I have been a bit out of the loop I guess, because I just found out last night about the TpT sale going on! Whoops!! But, better late than never, right? Everything in my store, and many other stores, will be up to 28% off with promo code HEROES.

I uploaded my newest unit last week for Miss Nelson is Missing! We always do that story toward the end of the year, so I am really excited to use this new pack!!

It seems as though I get around to blogging about once a month. Mia and I have been going to bed around 8:30 or 9 every night, so by the time I pick her up from Nana's, I only have a few short hours to spend with her! She is at such a fun stage...starting to "talk" more, and I am pretty sure we will have a full on crawler any day now! Yikes!

So this month we did our penguin unit! It is always one of my favorites! We used a lot of activities from my Penguin Unit! Of course, I was not the best at documenting... My iPhone storage is always full! Guess I need to put the 238473471 pictures of Mia on the computer...} Anywho, here are a few things we did...

Penguin fact and opinion anchor charts. Then they did the fact and opinion sort in my pack

After reading LOTS of nonfiction texts about penguins, each child made this cute penguin fact book from my pack! Our kids did 5-6 facts each, but you could easily differentiate!!

This is a cool vocabulary booklet I have had since I started teaching 8 years ago! It is always a big hit! Not sure where it came from, but we love it!

For Valentine's Day, we had our kiddos make these adorable sacks again. We have been doing this for several years and they are a huge hit!! I heard one little girl telling her friends, "Everyone is going to be jealous because we get big sacks!"

Not going to lie, we had to do a little crowd control that day. Our specials times were cut short, and I feel like Valentine's party day was a lot crazier than Christmas party day. However, my All You Need is Love! pack came in handy. We had our kids working on these pages while a few passed out their valentines. It worked magically!!

Our kids also reviewed some math with my Valentine's Candy Heart Fun!

We have been working on our space unit for a bit and the kids are really interested! We started with the sun and moon. We made these cute sun fact craftivities!! And as you see, we still need to get around to displaying them in the hall!!

We also did our Oreo moon phases, and moon bubbles writing activity! Here are the direction on how to make the moons!

We will be studying the planets this week! The kids can't wait! Hopefully it won't be another month before I post :) Happy shopping at the sale!!

Snowmen, Main Idea & 100th Day!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, friends! If any of you have been getting a lot of snow, please send it my way :) Mama could use a snow day {or two}! I thought I would give you a little update as to some of the things we have been working on in our classroom the past couple of weeks!

We were hoping we could bring on some snow by doing our snow unit. So far, it hasn't worked. We did our cute snowmen glyph craftivities, and also read The Biggest, Best Snowman and worked on retelling the story with our cute snowmen booklets. We also did some other activities that I forgot to document :)

The word "snowman" lends itself well to reviewing compound words, so we did the compound words pages from Nicole Shelby's Language Interactive Notebook! This is seriously one of my favorite TPT resources I have purchased!

We have been working on main idea and details. To introduce this topic, I brought in a bag filled with baby stuff {baby shampoo, a bottle, baby food, baby wipes}. As a class, the kids had to come up with the big idea, or main idea. They said it was all about taking care of a baby. The next day, we gave each group their own bag, and as a group, they had to decide what the main idea of their bag was. They did an awesome job!

We will continue working on main idea and details using my pack on TPT, but I think this hands on activity helps the kids understand this concept :)

On Friday we celebrated the 100th Day! Here are a few snapshots of activities we did! They come from my 100th Day Fun pack on TPT!

I got these crowns at the Target Dollar Spot a couple years ago. Unfortunately, I have not seen them since and just used the last of the ones I stocked up on!!

Students rolled a dice 100 times and guessed which number they would roll the most!

Students playing Race to 100!

I cannot believe that February is here! If you need some quick, fun activities, check these ones out! Hope your team wins tonight :) :)
